What is Tales of Berseria?

Vengeance for a life once lost.
A good story-driven JRPG, with a lackluster remaster. Tales of Berseria Remastered is a hack and slash JRPG made by Bandai Namco follows Velvet Crowe as she lets her hatred and rage fuel her journey for revenge.
Tales of Berseria’s Story
Compared to other notable JRPGs, Tales of Berseria’s story is a breath of fresh air. Once a happy village girl, turned into a revenge seeking killing machine. Playing as an anti-hero offered a different experience that you would otherwise wouldn’t really find in other stories.
Though driven by revenge, the game does well with showing Velvet’s emphatic side. Showing different dimensions to an already enjoyable character.

Tales of Berseria’s Gameplay: Hack and Slash
Being a remaster of the old game, its gameplay is a lot smoother and characters move faster. Controls are responsive, making the overall gameplay fluid and easy to learn.

Its combat is generally easy, with fights getting dictated with how spammy you can get with your moves. Ika nga ni GR Matthew Caparas Mabuhay “Offense is the best defense”. The remaster have the DLCs available, and the Grade Shop appears earlier than expected, making the earlier levels more easier to grind levels for.

Each character has their own Mystic Arts, these are flashy game-changing ultimates that add variety to the button smashy gameplay.
Tales of Berseria’s Sound Design
Both the English and Japanese dubs bring the characters to life. Often bringing emotional performances all throughout the story.
If you are a fan of videogame OSTs, you’ll be happy to hear that Tales of Berseria doesn’t disappoint! Its OSTs are bops, and because of the remaster, they are much better quality! Though compared to other Tales of games, it isn’t as memorable.
The Content: Disappointing
For a 10 year old game, it’s jarring that they didn’t improve its graphics. It’s one of the things that you expect when it comes to a remaster- It’s basically mandatory.

Its FPS is still capped at 60. For casual gamers, this shouldn’t be much of an issue. For those who are seeking better frames, it’s lacking. Though as mentioned earlier, it still plays smoothly.
You would expect new areas, characters, or even a new side quest for a remaster. Surprisingly, Tales of Berseria’s Remastered version doesn’t offer any of these.

With all the disappointments, what does the remaster offer? Quality-of-life and all DLCs!
The game now features an auto-save feature, a skip button, and Grade shops appear much earlier… That’s pretty much it.
Final Verdict: A Remaster That Felt Like Re-Release
A story of vengeance is always a treat to experience if done well, and Tales of Berseria exactly delivers that. A dark story paired with fluid gameplay makes the overall experience enjoyable! Though that’s more on the 10 year old game itself. As a remaster, it feels more like it was simply a rerelease, ika nga a port. Though the quality of life changes were nice, its lack of new content made the whole remaster a bit pointless.
For those who are experiencing the game for the first time, you are in for a treat. Its dark story and fun hack and slash gameplay makes it worthy to be in your top JRPG lists. Tales of Berseria Remastered is definitely worth it.

For those who are hoping to experience the game in a different way, you’ll be met with a disappointing remaster. You’ll still be met with the same enjoyment, but don’t expect anything new.
